Book Review: Spin by Robert Charles Wilson [Apr. 17th, 2009|03:02 pm]
A Science Fiction thriller about not spinning, spinning and having spun. I really cannot give a synopsis because parts of the book will be ruined.

Very good book. The characters are very well developed and all unique and likable. The plot is also very interesting, there are many questions that the reader desperately wants to hear that eventually trickle in. The book keeps you guessing until the end.

My biggest criticism is this: time jumps around every chapter, and at the end of most of these chapters in a moment when it is like “oh snap” and you don’t get to find out what happens until you get through a whole chapter. Some might say that is just good suspense writing, I think it gets tiresome.

In conclusion, spin was a pleasure to read. I like science fiction and this book was right up my alley, as they say.

9.3/10

Book Review: Freakonomics [Apr. 7th, 2009|06:38 pm]
An economist and writer teamed up to write a book that answers some questions about everyday life.

The book was initially interesting, but it seemed very drawn out for the information that it had. The author repeated the same points over and over. Also I question some of his conclusions. What I gained from the book is random knowledge about random things which I will tell others throughout my lifetime.

In conclusion, the information in the book was interesting, but it was not enjoyable for me to read. I'll stick to fiction. 6/10.

Next up: Spin

So I do not have very much free time nowadays but I miss reading. I also don't want to read a shitty book, and I trust all of your opinions. That being said,

What is your favorite book?

Post it and I will read it.

fuckin' bullshit [Nov. 25th, 2007|10:38 pm]
I am so tired of the crime in this place.

I came home today, unpacked all my shit. Jess asked me to go to her house to help unpack her car when she got there, approx 15 mins from then. I unlock her front door, see the house fucking ransacked. Her bedroom door was taken off the hinges, all the drawers were open, shit thrown all over. Same deal with her roommates' rooms. Called the police, they came, checked things out. The window by the back door was broken, thats how they got in.

CSI are coming at midnight to do their thing. I hope they are just like on TV, preferably CSI Miami, that dialog is awful.

So I went with Jess to her house in PA this weekend. When we got back to troy we were unloading her car. Jess was in the house, and a group of sevenish black guys hit me on the back of the head with a pistol (prob not real but def metal). So they crowded around me I was kinda half in Jess' car and one pistol whipped my head while the other punched my head. Also they tried to take my wallet, which i was protecting with my hand. Jess came outside and started screaming, a car pulled down the road and they ran away.

Bullshit. I have a sore head but at least they didna take any of my shit
